Speaking at the joint press conference held after the meeting, Çavuşoğlu announced that diplomatic relations would reach ambassadorial level as soon as possible. Noting that the parties showed their willingness to strengthen relations in fields such as energy, trade, transport and diplomacy during their meeting with Şükri, Çavuşoğlu said that they were very satisfied with the concrete steps taken towards the normalization of relations, and that Turkey and Egypt would enhance their cooperation.

Expressing that there is a political desire to fully normalize relations with Turkey, Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukri said: “We have a solid foundation and we are confident that we will firmly restore relations with Turkey. The development of relations between Turkey and Egypt is in the interest of both countries.

Çavuşoğlu became the first Foreign Minister to visit Egypt from Turkey after 11 years. Egyptian Minister Şükri also visited Turkey on February 27 to express solidarity and condolences after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş and met with Minister Çavuşoğlu.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Çavuşoğlu’s visit to Cairo was the beginning of the restoration of relations between the two countries.
