Slovakia sends fighter jets to Ukraine

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger stated that the ruling minority government agreed to send 13 Soviet-made Mig-29 type fighter jets, which are not used in the country, to Ukraine.

Heger made a statement on Twitter about sending Soviet-made planes to Ukraine, which has been on the agenda for a long time. Noting that the promise made to Ukraine must be kept, Heger shared the expression: “The Slovak government approved the shipment of 13 Mig-29 aircraft to Ukraine.”

Heger recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy demanded more weapons, including fighter jets, and that they would try to do their best. Prime Minister Heger said: “Other countries are doing similar work. By supplying Ukraine with key military aid materials, this country will be able to defend itself and all of Europe against Russia.”

Heger, in his July 2022 statement, shared the information that Soviet-made jets will be replaced by F-16s, and that these planes will be out of use from September 2022, and that his country’s airspace it will be maintained by Czechs and Poles until the US F-16 supply announced that it would be protected by the air force. Heger also gave the green light for the delivery of Mig-29 to Ukraine. (AA)
