Poland: We will give fighter planes to Ukraine
Polish President Andrzej Duda said that they plan to send 4 Soviet-made MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the coming days.
Duda spoke about his country’s support for kyiv as Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, continues to demand planes. Noting that they plan to supply Ukraine with a dozen MiG-29 fighter jets, Duda stressed that it will be the first NATO member country to meet Ukraine’s growing demand for emergency fighter jets.
Duda stated that 4 of the Soviet-made fighter jets will be delivered to Ukraine in the next few days and the rest will be shipped after being checked.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also said on March 14 that they could deliver Soviet-made MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine “within 4 to 6 weeks.”
Ukrainian leaders are urging other NATO members to send planes to kyiv as well.
The Ukrainian air force is known to be familiar with MiG-29s. Poland, which has been using these fighters since 1989, still has 28 MiG-29s.
Poland, which is gradually replacing its MiG-29 fleet with US-made F-16s and South Korean-made FA-50 multirole jets, is also buying US-made F-35 fighter jets. In its second year of war with Russia, Ukraine is requesting warplanes from Western countries to strengthen its air defense. (AA)
