Russian President Vladimir Putin meets with Syrian President Assad
Speaking to the press during the meeting held at the Kremlin Palace, Putin said that the earthquakes (based in Kahramanmaraş, occurred on February 6) worsened the situation in Syria.
Stating that they helped Syria eliminate the consequences of the earthquake, Putin stated that bilateral relations have improved, saying: “Despite everything, our relations are also developing in the field of economy. It was noted that the volume of bilateral trade increased by 7 percent last year. Next year we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.” saying.
Referring to the issue of the fight against international terrorism in Syria, Putin said: “Thanks to our joint efforts and the contributions of the Russian Armed Forces, significant results have been achieved in the fight against international terrorism in Syria. This makes it possible to stabilize the political, social and economic situation of the country”. he used his statements.
Assad, on the other hand, declared that he was happy to be in Moscow, saying: “The talks between the officials of the two countries have never been interrupted. I would like to thank Russia (in Syria) for their great support to the victims of the earthquake. Our people are grateful to Russia for defending Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” he said.
Expressing that Russia continues to support them despite the war in Ukraine, Assad reiterated his support for the Moscow administration in the Russia-Ukraine War.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Syrian ministers attended the meeting between Putin and Assad.
FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTERS GAVE TOGETHER
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry statement, Lavrov had a separate meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad in Moscow.
During the meeting, bilateral relations were discussed as well as international and regional issues and the situation in Syria.
In the statement made by the Russian Defense Ministry, it was stated that Shoigu met with Syrian Defense Minister Ali Mahmud Abbas.
In the statement, it was noted that the situation in Syria and cooperation in the field of defense and the fight against international terrorism were discussed during the meeting. (AA)
