The UAV that fell into the Black Sea scared the US: “It should not fall into the wrong hands”

After the dangerous contact between the US and Russia over the Black Sea, came a remarkable statement from Washington.

The US European Forces Command (EUCOM) announced yesterday that two Russian Su-27 jets harassed the US MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle in the Black Sea, with the MQ-9 crashing in international waters after one of the planes crashed. Describing the incident as “very dangerous and unprofessional”, the US summoned the Russian ambassador in Washington to the Foreign Ministry.

The Russian Defense Ministry, on the other hand, denied that the fighter jet hit the US drone in the incident, arguing that the drone crashed as a result of a “sudden maneuver”. The Russian ambassador in Washington, Anatoli Antonov, also claimed that the US UAV was carrying out a mission to bring information to the Ukrainian military.

After the crisis that confronted the US and Russia, the spokesman for the US National Security Council, John Kirby, made some statements to CNN that drew attention. Kirby said they did not want the crashed MQ-9 drone to “fall into the wrong hands.”

Noting that the necessary measures have been taken to protect the UAV, Kirby said: “As far as I know, the Russians did not take out the plane. It is also possible that the UAV will never be taken out,” he said.

CAN RUSSIA KEEP US SECRETS?

US military officials warn that Russia may seize the crashed drone and gain access to information about US military technology. Some military officials say there is little data on the drone and the risk of information leakage is low, even if Russia gets it.

The Wall Street Journal, one of the main US media organs, recalled that Turkey closed the Strait to warships after the invasion of Ukraine and that there was no US ship in the Black Sea, so it would be difficult find the injured UAV.
