The strike grows: “Paris has become an open-air dump”
“Paris has become a giant open-air dump,” Beaune told France 2 television.
Defending that Mayor Hidalgo is responsible for this situation, Beaune said: “It is Anne Hidolgo who is on strike. She doesn’t do anything,” she said.
Clement Beaune affirmed that he respects the strike of the cleaning workers and said that the mayor of a city like Paris cannot ignore the garbage collectors.
Beaune pointed out that the smell emanating from the garbage cans and the increase in rats threaten public health, and complained that Mayor Hidalgo did not respond despite the calls.
Minister Beaune called on the municipalities whose employees are not on strike, to agree with the Municipality of Paris within the legal framework, to intervene and President Hidalgo to take the initiative on this.
The French press reported that more than 5,000 tons of garbage had accumulated in Paris. In the press images, the “hills” formed by garbage in many parts of Paris drew attention.

France is still discussing raising the retirement age.
THE PENSION AGE WILL BE INCREASED TO 64 YEARS
French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced on January 10 that the pension reform, which was among President Emmanuel Macron’s election promises, would be implemented.
Noting that in the country where the retirement age is 62, the statutory retirement age will gradually increase by 3 months each year and will increase to 64 in 2030, starting on September 1, Borne said that in 2027, a 43 year premium payment requirement will be entered to receive the full pension.
There have been multiple strikes and protests across the country since January 19 against the controversial reform.
The Senate, which approved the most controversial article of the reform on March 9, “which provides for a progressive increase in the retirement age from 62 to 64 years,” accepted the other articles of the reform on March 12.
The reform project, which will go to the Mixed Commission on March 15, will be put to a vote again in the Senate and then sent to the National Assembly for its final vote. (AA)
