Hundreds of people who opposed the Illegal Immigration Bill drawn up by the British government to prevent irregular migration gathered in Parliament Square and voiced their reaction. The protest held in front of Parliament in London was attended by the Fire Union and those who advocate for the right of immigrants to asylum.
Stephen Flynn, the leader of the Scottish National Party in the UK parliament, said he would not support the bill in parliament’s first assessment of the draft, and that those who need it in a normal country and society should be protected. . Stating that the bill stigmatizes all immigrants in the same way, Flynn said, “I’ll vote against it and I hope my other friends will do the same.”
Emphasizing that the government must listen to human rights organizations, Flynn said: “Here is the problem. They don’t listen, they don’t care. They don’t care about the people,” he said. Criticizing the regulation as “a terrible anti-immigrant bill”, Flynn stressed that immigrants are welcome in the UK.
‘Conservatives don’t speak for this country’
Tom Marshall, one of the organizers of the action and a member of the Socialist Workers Party, also claimed that immigrants from a country other than Hong Kong, Ukraine and Afghanistan cannot apply for asylum in the UK.
Pointing out that irregular migrants who want to cross the English Channel will now have to try more difficult ways to find refuge in England, Marshall reminded migrants who lost their lives in this way in the Mediterranean. Marshall also reacted to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s remarks that this bill was prepared in accordance with public demand, saying: “The Conservatives don’t speak for this country.”
With the new bill announced by the British government on March 7 to prevent irregular migrants from entering the country by boat or boats through the English Channel, migrants are expected to be detained as soon as they are caught. According to the bill, detained irregular immigrants will be deported to their countries of origin or to safe third countries within 28 days without judicial investigation.
Irregular immigrants who have been deported will seek legal rights and seek asylum after being deported. Those who enter the country illegally will not be granted the right to apply for asylum. (AA)
