UN appeals for help to earthquake victims

According to a written statement from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Grandi completed his five-day visit to earthquake-affected areas in Turkey and Syria.

Grandi, who met with earthquake victims and aid workers as part of his contacts, said the quakes caused thousands of deaths in Turkey and Syria and affected millions of people.

MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DISPLACED

Noting that the earthquakes of February 6 caused extensive destruction in the regions where he was effective, Grandi said: “The extent of the destruction and destruction is shocking and in many places it reminds me of the apocalypse. Millions of people suffered loss, were injured and traumatized. Many were displaced by this tragic and terrible event.” he used the phrase.

HELP IS NEEDED

Referring to humanitarian relief efforts in the earthquake zones, Grandi said:

“The needs on the ground are overwhelming in both countries and more resources must be allocated to the response. While it is critical to think about and support long-term efforts, much more humanitarian aid and early recovery resources are needed so that people can begin to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.”

SYRIA REVIEW

Grandi also noted the following in his assessment of the situation in Syria:

“I have been visiting Syria regularly for almost 20 years, but nowhere have I seen such need and despair. It is consciously unacceptable to leave so many people with so few possessions for so long. They need much more support and they deserve it. Today, it is a humanitarian imperative to accelerate our relief and early recovery efforts across the country. It is very important to reach all those in need, wherever they are.”

In the statement, it was indicated that the UN demanded 1 billion dollars for humanitarian aid intervention in Turkey due to the earthquakes, and approximately 400 million dollars for Syria, 12 percent of the requested amount was financed for Turkey and the 59 percent for Syria. (AA)
