Pope: I’ll quit if I’m too tired
Speaking to the Italian media, the leader of the Catholic Church and Vatican Head of State, Pope Francis, announced that he would “resign if he gets too tired.” Pope Francis, 86, who reportedly left office due to health problems recently, said: “I quit my job when I think I won’t perceive events and when I am too tired to see things clearly.”
“I am old and my physical stamina has decreased,” Pope said, adding that he was uncomfortable walking in a wheelchair after knee surgery.
Pope Francis, who previously rejected accusations of resignation, said that this position could only be left in extraordinary circumstances and announced that he did not intend to resign. The previous Pope Benedict was the first to resign from the papacy after many years in 2013.
