Rocket attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant
The last connection between the Ukrainian energy system and the nuclear power plant was severed as a result of the rocket attack on the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, Ukraine. In addition, power facilities in many cities were attacked, especially in the capital kyiv.
The National Nuclear Power Generation Corporation of Ukraine (Energoatom) announced on its official Telegram account that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) was attacked by a rocket at 03:53 am local time on March 9. It was reported that the last connection between the Ukrainian energy system and the nuclear power plant was severed as a result of the attack.
The statement read: “Currently, the station has entered blackout mode for the sixth time during the occupation. Power units 5 and 6 were placed in a cold state. 18 diesel generators were activated to meet ZNPP requirements. 10 days of fuel left. The countdown has begun. If the station’s external power supply is not renewed during this time, an accident with radiation consequences for the entire world may occur.
ENERGY INSTALLATIONS ARE TARGETED THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY
Russia targeted power facilities in many Ukrainian cities. Energoatom stated that attacks on power facilities in kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk and Zhitomir were carried out between March 6 and 9.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted that the capital experienced power outages as a result of the attacks and that 40 percent of citizens were unable to meet their heating needs. Odessa Governor Maksym Marchenko announced that some power lines were damaged amid the attacks. Marchenko said the teams are working to fix the bugs. (DHA)
