How many Ukrainians have returned to their country? EU announced

Johansson held a press conference on the year since the temporary protection directive for Ukrainian refugees was issued after the war.

Stating that 16 million Ukrainians came to the EU last year, Johansson said: “11 million of them returned to Ukraine. 1 million of them went from the EU to other countries, including the US, Canada and the UK. Up to 4 million Ukrainians remained on EU territory.” she used the phrase.

WHY HAVE 11 MILLION PEOPLE RETURNED?

Asked by a reporter why 11 million Ukrainians returned to their war-torn country, Johansson said:

“I spoke with the returnees. There is no reason to say that they are not happy here. They feel welcome here, but many have returned to fight, work or be part of the resistance to Russian aggression, perhaps leaving their children here with relatives.”

Johansson claimed that up to 200,000 Ukrainians continue to enter and leave the EU on a weekly basis.

In the written statement made by the EU Commission, it was noted that 4 million people who received temporary protection had the opportunity to work, education, health and housing thanks to said directive.

Emphasizing that thanks to the directive, member states helped to quickly establish registration and issuance procedures, it was shared that special protection is provided to children and that about one fifth of children in Ukraine are currently in the EU.

Regarding access to education and vocational training, it was stated in the statement that, as of the start of the school year in September 2022, almost half a million Ukrainian children were enrolled in education systems across the EU.

It was claimed that approximately 2 thousand Ukrainian patients were evacuated to 20 EU countries and approximately 1 million displaced persons found employment opportunities in the EU. (AA)
