Research by German intelligence shows that Ukraine was likely involved in the explosions of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. The German media reported it on Tuesday in an extensive reconstruction. The New York Times previously announced that the US intelligence services have come to the same conclusion.
The investigation has largely reconstructed how the explosions occurred. A boat with visible traces of the explosive was also identified. A group of six chartered the yacht from Ukrainian owners and then headed to Denmark, reports Die Zeit. On the night of 25 September 2022, a series of explosions then occurred, causing large leaks in two pipes.
Ukraine denies
Who ultimately carried out the sabotage does not emerge in the investigation. Previously, the Kremlin itself was to blame, but this possibility no longer seems plausible. Ukraine has so far denied any involvement in the attacks. Zelensky also told Reuters news agency that this was “absolutely out of the question”.
