New prime minister appointed in Qatar
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamed Al Thani has appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al Thani as the country’s “new prime minister.”
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, according to a written statement from the Emirati court. The Emir of Qatar has appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al-Thani as the country’s new Prime Minister. It was stated that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al-Thani will continue to serve as Foreign Minister.
Khalifa bin Hamed bin Khalifa Al Sani, brother of Emir Sheikh Tamim, was appointed Minister of the Interior, a position that was left vacant by the resignation of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz.
The country’s new Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al-Thani, was sworn in in the presence of Sheikh Tamim, the Emir of Qatar, and officially assumed office. In Qatar, where the Prime Minister is also the Minister of the Interior, different names have been designated for these positions for the first time with this new cabinet.
Other names in the cabinet, including three women ministers, kept their posts.
