Americans who went to Mexico to buy medicines were kidnapped… The FBI put a cash prize
The kidnapping of 4 US citizens by gunmen in the Mexican city of Matamoros was at the top of the agenda in the US.
In the statement from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), it was indicated that 4 people who were traveling by car to Matamoros, on the border with the US state of Texas, were shot at shortly after entering Mexico.
It was noted that the FBI has offered a reward of 50 thousand dollars for the extradition of 4 kidnapped US citizens and the arrest of the criminals. In a written statement from the FBI’s San Antonio office, “On March 3, 4 Americans crossed into Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico in a white pickup truck with North Carolina license plates. Shortly after crossing into Mexico, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the passengers of the vehicle. The four Americans were put in a vehicle and abducted from the scene by armed men.
“The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for finding these individuals and arresting those involved,” the statement said.
LEADER OF MEXICO: THEY GOED TO OBTAIN MEDICINES
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said in a statement: “According to the information we have, these people crossed into Mexico to buy medicines. They confronted a group and the (Mexican) group stopped them. The government is working on the case,” he said.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price said they are working with federal agencies and the Mexican government to find US citizens. Price said that the US diplomatic missions in Mexico also supported the investigation of the incident.
Every day, large numbers of Americans cross from the US border areas into Mexico to purchase very expensive medicines in the country, mainly insulin. It is known that in the US, where hospital and insurance costs are very expensive, citizens cross the border for treatment. (AA)
