Manuela Rottmann received 21.3 percent of the vote and Peter Wirth, a well-known Frankfurt citizen, gave the biggest surprise. Wirth entered the election as an independent, receiving 5.1 percent of the vote.
Yankı Pürsün of the Liberal Party, the only candidate of Turkish origin in the elections, stood at 2.8 percent. It is believed that the majority of voters of Turkish origin did not vote for Pürsün acting tactically so as not to lose the votes of the SPD.
