Europe’s condemnation of the events in Israel and Palestine

Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain called for an end to Israeli settler aggression against Palestinian civilians and an end to violence in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. In the joint statement of 6 European countries, it was reported that the recent increase in violence in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories is worrying.

In the statement condemning the attack that killed two Israelis in the West Bank last week, it was stated that terrorism cannot be defended under any circumstances, adding: “We also strongly condemn acts of violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and their homes without discrimination”.

Emphasizing that the events and the loss of life will only lead to more violence, it was noted that those responsible must be brought to justice. In the statement, which highlights the expression “all unilateral steps that threaten peace and encourage violence must be stopped,” it was recalled that the parties made promising decisions for lasting peace during their meeting in Jordan on February 26.

In the communiqué of the 6 countries, which called on the parties not to give up on their decisions such as reducing tension and working for permanent peace, it was assessed that “There is no other desired result than permanent peace.”

“We reiterate our opposition to all unilateral steps that undermine the two-state solution, including settlement expansion, which are also illegal under international law,” the joint statement said. The statement urged the Israeli government to reconsider its decision to establish new settlements in the West Bank and legalize settlements there. (AA)
