‘When I am president, I will not give money to countries that hate America.’
“Once I’m president, we’ll stop giving money to countries that hate America,” said Nikki Haley, a US presidential candidate.
Announcing her candidacy for the Republican Party in the 2024 US presidential election, Haley spoke at the 2023 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC 2023). Haley said that when she was the US ambassador to the United Nations (UN), she said that she would watch the backs of her allies, but that she would write down the names of the countries that did not support the US.
In this context, Haley recalled what happened after the US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and said:
“128 countries condemned us. I have their names. I went to my office and made a list with my staff. They listed 193 countries. In the second column, I asked them to write the percentages of their votes for and against the US. I asked them to put in the last column how much foreign aid we gave them.”
Haley claimed that the US handed out billions of dollars to countries that “dive” into the pit, saying, “They stab us in the back and then turn around and come over to ask for money.”
Claiming that some of these countries “support terrorists trying to kill American soldiers,” Haley said, “we provide foreign aid to Pakistan, Iraq, the Palestinians, and even communist Cuba and China. “We have to stop trying to buy friends,” she said. “When I am president, we will stop giving money to countries that hate America,” Haley said.
