Clashes intensify on the Bahmut front
It was announced that the fighting became more intense as the Ukrainian army dug new trenches to stop the Russian forces in the eastern town of Bahmut.
While Russian forces have been attacking Bahmut in the Donetsk region for months, the region has become one of the places where the most intense conflicts of the war took place.
“The fighting in Bahmut continues unabated… The situation is critical,” Volodymyr Nazarenko, deputy commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, told Ukraine NV Radio. The Ukrainian General Staff announced that Ukrainian forces have repelled more than 85 attacks in the past 24 hours in five main areas of Bahmut’s front line.
Losing territory in the second half of 2022, Russia says acquiring Bahmut would be an important step in capturing the rest of the industrial region known as Donbas. Ukraine, on the other hand, claims that the city has limited strategic importance but wants to drive Russian forces out of the city. (Reuters)
