WHO appeals for help for Syria earthquake victims
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus and United Nations Deputy Regional Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs David Carden visited hospitals and shelters for earthquake victims in Idlib province in northwestern Syria.
The delegation led by Ghebreyesus made a press statement at the Babül Air Hospital after visiting hospitals in the Babül Hava, Kefer Lusin, Akrabat and Sermede regions on the Turkey-Syria border.
Ghebreyesus said that the people living in northwestern Syria need the help of the international community.
Pointing out that the difficult conditions people live in due to the war doubled after the earthquake, Ghebreyesus called on the international community and governments to make every effort to help those suffering from “poverty and deprivation.”
In the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, at least 3,688 people lost their lives and 14,749 people were injured, more than half of them in the regions under opposition control. (AA)
