Israel’s proposal to impose the death penalty on “terrorist criminals” is accepted

The proposal to introduce the death penalty for “terrorist criminals” in Israel was accepted by the parliamentary committee

Benjamin Netanyahu, in a statement on his social media account, announced that the proposal in question was accepted by Parliament’s Legislative Affairs Committee.

The leader of the far-right Jewish Power Party and Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, who introduced the bill to Parliament, also shared the following on his social media account:

“The Jewish Force’s proposal for the death penalty against terrorists was accepted by the parliamentary committee. Nothing could be more significant on a day when 2 Jews were killed in a terrorist attack.”

If the proposal is approved by the government and approved in three votes in the Assembly, those who commit terrorist crimes “against the citizens of Israel” could be sentenced to death.

On the other hand, in Israeli press reports, it was noted that the death penalty bill would only be implemented for terror attacks against Israelis and would not include terror attacks against Palestinians.

It was claimed that Netanyahu’s Likud party had previously approached the proposal with reservations, but supported the proposal in committee after the killing of 2 Jewish settlers in an armed attack in the occupied West Bank today.

It was recalled that Israel’s Internal Intelligence Agency, Shin-Bet (Shabak), previously stated that when the death penalty was put on the agenda, it would not have a deterrent effect.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ben-Gvir, the leader of the Jewish Power Party, had carried out many controversial actions, such as storming Masjid al-Aqsa with fanatical Jewish settlers, unleashing weapons on Palestinians, setting up tents in front of Palestinian homes, they were forced to be evicted from their homes.

Netanyahu’s coalition agreements with Itamar Ben-Gvir’s party, the Jewish Force, also included the death penalty for terrorist offences. (AA)
