United Nations High Level Review on Earthquake Zone: It’s Like a Place of the Apocalypse
David Beasley, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, conducted a review in Antakya yesterday. Seeing the devastation of the quake, Beasley said: “I found scenes of the apocalypse in southern Turkey.”
While the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquakes on February 6 exceeded 50,000, Beasley used the phrase “I can describe what I saw today in one word: apocalypse.”
ALL BUILDINGS ARE DESTROYED
“Entire neighborhoods have been leveled, buildings destroyed, schools and stores closed, lives scattered,” Beasley said. The extent of this destruction is incomprehensible.”
Beasley claimed that northern Syria, which was badly damaged by the quake, is also struggling because of the war that has been going on for years, adding: “Destruction added to destruction.”
