Iran to export air defense system to Syria

According to Iranian state television, senior Syrian military officials, including Assad regime Defense Minister Ali Mahmoud Abbas, recently paid a visit to Iran.

Within the scope of the visit, it was claimed that Tehran and the Assad regime agreed to export air defense and electronic warfare equipment from Iran to Syria against Israeli airstrikes.

“Syria needs to reconfigure its air defense network and precision guided bombs for fighter jets. Most likely, we will witness the supply of Iranian radars and defense missiles like the Khordad 15 system to Syria to strengthen Syria’s air defense.” statements were included.

Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, in a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Abbas in Tehran on February 22, said that “all capabilities must be used to increase Syria’s defense capability.”

Iran introduced the national air defense system called “Khordad 15” in June 2019.

Since 2011, Israel has been carrying out frequent airstrikes, especially against Iranian-backed forces in Syria. (AA)
