Tank protest at the Russian embassy in Berlin

On the first anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war, the Story Bunker Museum in Berlin brought a Russian tank destroyed at the beginning of the war to Berlin to protest the war in Ukraine and show the brutality of the war.

The T-72 type tank, which was destroyed when it ran over a mine near the Ukrainian capital kyiv, was placed on the trailer in front of the Russian Embassy in Berlin. Enno Lenze of Berlin’s Story Bunker Museum said that by bringing the tank here they wanted to show the brutality and horror of war, “but we wanted to avoid shocking or similar images where people are walking away or that doesn’t really mean anything. Tanks are seen as indestructible beasts of war. “You run over the 7.5 kilogram mine and it is destroyed,” he said.

Lenze stated that the tank was used by the Russians during the battle around Kiev in March 2022 and that it was destroyed when it ran over an anti-tank mine in a village near Butça.

Explaining that it was easy to bring the tank to Berlin from a logistical point of view, but difficult from a bureaucratic point of view, Lenze pointed out that the Berlin Mitte district municipality refused to bring the tank to the city, so they went to court and won. . When asked why the tank’s gun was pointed towards the Russian embassy, Lenze replied that it was a matter of weight distribution since the tank was on the trailer.

Lenze said the tank will remain in Berlin until February 27, and then it will go on display first in the Netherlands and then in other European countries.

On the other hand, demonstrations of solidarity with Ukraine were held in Berlin on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war. (AA)
