Deportation of employees of the Iranian embassy from Germany

Germany declared two employees of the Iranian Embassy in Berlin persona non grata.

In her statement, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock criticized the death penalty for German-Iranian Jamshid Sharmehd in Iran, saying: “The German government declared 2 members of the Iranian embassy persona non grata and gave them little time to get out of Germany.

Baerbock stated that the Iranian Embassy Chargé d’Affaires was summoned to the Ministry after the death sentence against Sharmahd, saying:

“You were informed that we do not accept a serious violation of the rights of a German citizen. As a result, the German government declared 2 Iranian embassy employees persona non grata and gave them a short period of time to leave Germany. We urge Iran to abolish Jamshid Sharmahd’s death sentence and grant him a fair appeals process in accordance with the rule of law.”

Iran had sentenced to death Jamshid Sharmahd, allegedly the leader of a US-based anti-regime organization and accused of “organizing terrorist acts” in the country.

IRAN’S REACTION TO ENGLAND

Meanwhile, Iran summoned Tehran’s Chargé d’Affaires to the Foreign Ministry in response to British sanctions.

In a written statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the statement, “British Embassy Temporary Chargé d’Affaires Isabelle Marsh has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry to protest the continuation of baseless accusations against Iran.” (AA)
