Poland agrees with US company for first nuclear power plant
A preliminary agreement was signed with the American company Westinghouse for the first nuclear power plant planned to be established in Poland. The “preliminary design” agreement was signed at a ceremony held with the participation of Poland’s Energy Minister Anna Moskwa and officials.
Moskwa said that within the scope of the preliminary design agreement, work will be done on the transfer and placement of technology from the US to Poland, “The next agreement will be the most important design agreement and we expect it to be signed this summer.”
AGREEMENT SIGNED TODAY
Moskwa reported that a preliminary agreement was signed today between the US Westinghouse Electric Company, Westinghouse Electric Poland and the Polish power company Polskie Elektrownie for the first nuclear power plant to be built in Poland.
Emphasizing that the agreement signed today is another important step in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland, Moskwa said: “This agreement will give us the impetus to develop our own energy that is clean, safe and above all. The construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland is carried out in cooperation with a stable and experienced partner. This project is part of strengthening Polish-American cooperation.” he said.
THERE ARE WORKS FOR US FINANCIAL INVOLVEMENT.
Moskwa added that the expenses of the nuclear power plant will be covered by the treasury “to the extent possible”, but there are also studies for the financial participation of the US. The Polish government decided in November 2022 that the technology of the first power plant under the “Nuclear Power Program” would be provided by Westinghouse.
Construction of the first nuclear power plant is scheduled to start in 2026 and commissioned in 2033. As part of the Polish government’s energy strategy, 6 nuclear power units with a total capacity of 6 to 9 gigawatts will be built in the country . (AA)
