North Korea launches new ballistic missile
Japan and South Korea reported that North Korea conducted a test of ballistic missiles in the direction of the Sea of Japan (East Sea).
North Korea launched a ballistic missile in the direction of the Sea of Japan at around 5:20 p.m. local time, according to the Japanese Defense Ministry. It was noted that the ballistic missile, which remained in the air for 66 minutes, traveled 900 kilometers and was able to reach a height of 5,700 kilometers.
Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio announced that the missile is estimated to have landed in Japanese national territorial waters, west of Hokkaido in the north, and in Japanese national territorial waters. The Cabinet Office stated that an emergency team has been established with the representatives of the relevant ministries and organizations and the possible damage assessment is being investigated.
Ino Toshiro, Japan’s vice defense minister, told reporters that they will continue to cooperate closely with the United States.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff also confirmed the launch of a long-range ballistic missile from the Sunan region near Pyongyang. In the statement of the General Staff, the statements were used: “Our army maintains a state of full readiness in close cooperation with the United States.”
It should be noted that the test came after South Korea yesterday announced its plan to hold joint exercises with the US within the next week.
This North Korean test, which launched approximately 90 missiles of various types and ranges in 37 tests in 2022, marked its second since early 2023. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
