North Korea launched another ballistic missile on Saturday, according to Japan and South Korea. The first rocket of 2023 flew from the east coast towards the Sea of Japan. Tokyo reports that the shell landed in water, probably about 200 kilometers west of Hokkaido.
“Preparation for War”
North Korea on Friday threatened an “unprecedented tough response” after it was announced that South Korea and the United States would hold new military exercises next week. The two allies will discuss how to react to a nuclear attack from Pyongyang. Washington and Seoul agreed last year to hold such exercises every year and now it will happen for the first time. North Korea sees the operation as “preparation for war”.
It is the first ballistic missile launched by North Korea since New Years. In his own words, the country has only carried out regular military activities in recent weeks in order not to escalate tensions. But last year Pyongyang regularly threatened with missiles. According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, by 2022 there will be more than 70.
