Europe will erect giant towers on the Turkish border
The number of illegal immigrants who arrived in Europe last year increased by 50 percent to nearly one million. Most of them came to Germany.
The countries of the European Union, meeting last week, announced new measures under the chairmanship of the president of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. While it is pointed out that illegal immigration comes especially through Turkey, the Turkey-Bulgaria border will be reinforced with additional vehicles, large watch and response towers, thermal cameras and additional personnel to combat this.
The most important innovation is that asylum applications will now be examined and decided in the country of first arrival or in Eastern European countries. Therefore, people may be sent back before they can enter Western Europe.
OTHER MEASURES AND FINANCING
On the other hand, talks with Serbia continue to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants through Turkey.
EU member states have not yet agreed how these costs will be covered, but Germany has announced that it will approve issuing the necessary payment. Other countries are expected to ratify it soon.
The proposal by Austria and Greece to build a wall on the Turkish border was not accepted.
