Greek PM Mitsotakis: We must support Turkey

Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis stated that the immigration problem can be solved with a three-pronged approach, which consists of protecting the borders, returning those who do not have the right to asylum and providing legal migration routes.

Mitsotakis made assessments of the approach of Greece and the European Union (EU) to the migration problem and proposed solutions at the panel on migration held within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.

Stating that it is important to protect borders to combat irregular migration, Miçotakis pointed out that it is also important to work with other countries on the return of those who do not have the right to asylum within the EU.

“WE MUST SUPPORT TURKEY”

Mitsotakis noted that it is also important to support countries that will accept irregular migrants who do not have the right to asylum, saying that “transit countries are also important.” he said.

Referring to the migration agreement that Turkey signed with the EU in 2016, Miçotakis said: “We must try to work with Turkey, we must offer support to Turkey.” saying.

LEGAL MIGRATION OPPORTUNITIES

Mitsotakis recalled Greece’s immigrant acceptance agreements with Bangladesh and Egypt for the employment of temporary workers and stated that it is important to offer legal pathways to people seeking a better future in Europe through immigration.

“Border protection is part of the solution, not the only solution, but border protection should be part of the solution,” said Mitsotakis, who likened it to “a big wall with a big gate” to protect borders and encourage legal immigration. he said.

Mitsotakis pointed out that Greece also has to fight against irregular migration, saying: “We also need help, support and solidarity.” saying. (AA)
