Sunak: ‘Progress in Northern Ireland’ Related articles

Significant progress has been made towards finalizing post-Brexit deals with Northern Ireland for the region, according to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, although little is known about deals for the European Union. This writes Bloomberg.

The British prime minister met with Northern Ireland politicians today to discuss the state of play of talks with the EU to resolve what could be Brexit’s biggest hangover: the free movement of goods between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

Both the UK’s relationship with its main trading partner and the future of Northern Ireland’s devolved government are at stake. This is mainly because the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is blocking the formation of a central government.

No doubt

DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson has no doubts about the progress made, but insists that some areas are still too vague and that his party awaits final agreement before any possible approval.

Northern Ireland observers are anxiously awaiting the verdict from the DUP, which has set itself seven pillars that any potential deal must meet before a decision is made.
