North Korea says it will present “unprecedented resistance, a strong countermeasure” if South Korea and the United States go through with their plans to hold a military exercise.
This was reported by the North Korean Foreign Ministry via state news agency KCNA. In the same statement, Pyongyang also said it would consider further military action if the UN Security Council continues to put pressure on North Korea.
Strategy session
The United States and South Korea have previously announced that they will hold a strategic session at the Pentagon in Washington on February 22. There, among other things, they will hold discussions and take measures in connection with the nuclear threat from North Korea. Seoul and Washington agreed last year to hold such talks once a year, the scheduled meeting being the first.
After the meeting in Washington, the South Korean delegation will visit nuclear submarines at a naval base in Georgia. A more concrete strategy session with the leaders of the US and South Korean militaries will follow in May. The countries also agreed in the spring to resume the joint army exercises they held last summer, the Ulchi Freedom Shield.
