Greek rescue team returns to Athens

The Greek search and rescue team based in Kahramanmaraş, which came in support after the earthquakes that affected 10 provinces, has left Turkey.

The team consisting of expert firefighters, medical personnel, engineers and two search and rescue dogs in search and rescue activities was greeted with applause at the Eleftherios Venizelos airport in Athens, the capital of Greece. Officials such as Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Christos Stilyanidis and Deputy Minister Evangelos Turnas, Health Minister Thanos Plevris and Fire Brigade Chief Yorgos Purnaras came to welcome the teams.
Stilyanidis, speaking to the press, stated that the Greek search and rescue team has been working in a professional and dedicated manner since the first night they arrived in Turkey.

Stilyanidis said of the team that rescued 5 people from the rubble in Turkey: “They showed what solidarity means with their actions.” Plevris thanked the Greek team for their work in Turkey, saying: “They did us proud everywhere. They have shown that solidarity and humanity always prevail in such difficult situations.”

Purnaras, on the other hand, referred to the words of the world famous Greek writer and thinker Nikos Kazantzakis, who said: “When one feels pain, he is alive, when he feels someone else’s pain, he is human”. He drew attention to the importance of solidarity.

Dimitris Rupas, Head of Greece’s Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK), who was involved in the search and rescue efforts in Turkey, said: “We did what we would do if the (earthquake) was in our own country, no more No less. less.” (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
