Memorial for Turkey in Times Square

A commemoration event was held in New York Times Square in the US for those who lost their lives in the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, which affected 10 provinces. Turks living in the US remembered those who died in the earthquakes with candles they lit in New York’s famous Times Square.

Gathered in front of the statue of George M. Cohan, one of the symbols of Times Square, the Turks lit candles for those who lost their lives and left carnations in the area they had decorated with Turkish flags. The event was attended by Turkish-American businessmen, students, Turks who have lived in the US for a long time, and many foreigners.

The National Anthem was sung at the event, where a minute of silence was observed for those who lost their lives in the earthquakes. Calls for urgent support were also made to those affected by the earthquake in order to raise awareness at the event. (AA)
