The Christian Democrats, who are in the national opposition, won the elections in Berlin. It is the first time in more than twenty years that the CDU is again the largest in the capital. The party received about 28 percent of the vote. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic SPD fell to second place by around 18%, German media reported after the polls closed.
