Heartbreaking in earthquake: the father who did not leave his daughter spoke
While the whole world was locked in good news from Turkey, the main name of the square, which was served by the French news agency AFP and caused great sadness in the international public, spoke to the German media.
The photo of the grieving father in an orange jacket holding his daughter’s hand under the rubble in Kahramanmaraş became a hot topic all over the world. While the photos provided by the French news agency AFP were heartbreaking, the German newspaper Bild attended the funeral of the girl who lost her life under the rubble.
Mesut Hançer said that he stayed that night with his cousins at his daughter’s grandmother’s house.
Mesut Hançer, 49, who did not leave his 15-year-old daughter Irmak’s side for a second in the earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people, spoke to Bild newspaper at the Kapıçam cemetery. Dagger, who has worn an orange jacket ever since, was seen in front of the grave of his daughter.
“I CAN’T SAVE MY PRINCESS”
Speaking to Bild in front of the 380 cemetery, Hançer said: “I was working in the bakery when the ground trembled. I called my wife right away and she told me that my two daughters and son were fine. But that night my youngest daughter stayed with her grandmother. Irmak’s cousins had come and wanted to be with them.”
Stating that he called his daughter but was unable to get an answer, the grieving father said: “I prayed a lot, but unfortunately we lost.” “I tried to dig with my bare hands to save my princess, but in the end I couldn’t get her out,” Dagger said.
