A message of solidarity with Turkey from Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that they stand in solidarity with Turkey due to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.

Macron made a statement to the press after the extraordinary summit of EU leaders in Brussels.
Regarding the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, which is described as “the disaster of the century”, Macron said: “I would like to express our solidarity and support for the terrible earthquake that struck northwestern Turkey and Syria and its victims.”

Recalling that he called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the day of the earthquake and conveyed his condolences on behalf of France, Macron stressed that many European Union (EU) countries, including France, have sent a civil protection team. Noting that a team of 140 people from his country participated in the rescue efforts in Turkey, Macron stressed that they are willing to increase aid as an expression of solidarity according to needs and priorities.

Macron, who said that at the summit they talked about increasing the competitiveness of European industry vis-à-vis US products and the issue of immigrants, said that the possibility of sending combat planes to Ukraine, at the question of journalists, was on the table. table.

Expressing that it is certain that this option will not be realized in the coming weeks, Macron pointed out that even if it is decided, this option needs a process, including the process of training Ukrainian pilots.

Referring to the massive strikes and demonstrations against the controversial pension reform in his country since January, Macron asked that Parliament and the Senate function and that the protests do not put the country in a state of blockade. (AA)
