Mitsotakis: We cooperate very well with the Turkish authorities

In his statement to CNN, Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis stated that Greece was one of the first countries to take steps to support Turkey, saying: “The conditions are very difficult, but we cooperate very well with the Turkish authorities.”

Expressing that the Turkish and Greek people are friends and disagreements should be put aside now, Micotakis said the priority right now is to save people from the rubble. Mitsotakis recalled that Turkey and Greece helped each other in the 1999 Marmara and Athens earthquakes and stated that they will continue to support Turkey “in the long-term consequences of this terrible event.”

PARTY CAMPAIGN

The ruling New Democracy Party announced that it has launched an aid campaign with its youth branches to collect food and basic necessities for earthquake victims in Turkey.

In a written statement, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) called on the Greek people for all kinds of support for the people of Turkey and Syria. The statement demanded that aid materials and blood donation campaigns be supported through the union and various institutions, and that volunteer doctors and health personnel be sent to Turkey for their support.

The main opposition party, SYRIZA, also announced that it supports the campaign to help the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, organized by the organization “Solidarity for All”.

In a Turkish post on his Twitter account, Mera25 Party Chairman Yanis Varoufakis said: “Our thoughts are with the people who lost loved ones due to the earthquakes and most importantly with those suffering under the rubble.” now. We send our feelings of solidarity from beyond the Aegean Sea,” he said.

While Greek citizens shared many solidarity messages on social media, the Greek Red Cross, especially many municipalities, unions and non-governmental organizations, launched a relief campaign for the earthquake victims.

SOLIDARITY MESSAGES FROM THE GREEK PRESS

Messages of solidarity with Turkey came to light in the national press due to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.

Greek state television ERT opened its morning news program with footage of the Turkey earthquake. The images were accompanied by the Turkish song “I told the world that I love you.”

In the cartoon published in the Kathimerini newspaper, a young man with spray paint in his hand was depicted writing “We are all Turks” on the wall.

The headlines of EFSYN, Rizospastis and Political Newspapers highlighted “solidarity, unity, cooperation and friendship”. (AA)
