A minute of silence in the German parliament for those who lost their lives in the earthquake
The president of the German parliament, Baerbel Bas, invited all the deputies and all the visitors of the parliament to a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the earthquake.
Bas, in his speech here, claimed that the images of the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria were in front of everyone and said: “There are some among you whose families and close circles were affected. “We are getting messages from people in our constituencies who are concerned and want to help,” he said.
Stating that thousands of people died in the quake, tens of thousands were injured, many people were under the rubble and waiting to be rescued, Bas noted that the cold and snowfall made search and rescue efforts difficult.
Bas emphasized the great international solidarity and recalled that aid organizations from Germany went to the region.
Stating that “Germany will continue to provide its support as much as possible,” Bas thanked those who worked in the region on behalf of the Bundestag and who contributed to this solidarity in Germany. (AA)
