Together with Germany and Denmark, the Netherlands is buying “at least” a hundred Leopard 1A5 tanks for Ukraine. They also supply the necessary ammunition and spare parts. The Netherlands also wants to provide training to Ukrainian tank crews.
Modernized tanks are purchased directly from German industry. They are in storage there, Ministers Kajsa Ollongren (Defense) and Wopke Hoekstra (Foreign Affairs) write in the House of Representatives. According to the Germans, another 20-25 tanks will be delivered by the summer.
How many more tanks can be delivered beyond these 100 will depend “on the process of reviewing the tanks available in stock at German industry,” the defense ministry said. The Leopard 1A5 tank is an old tank that entered the market in the late 80s.
