Frightening statement from the US: It may be the deadliest earthquake in the last 10 years

As Turkey has been rocked by one earthquake after another, search and rescue efforts continue at full speed despite adverse weather conditions.

Although many aftershocks occurred after the earthquake, the Wall Street Journal, one of the leading newspapers in the US, shared data revealing the magnitude of the quake.

The Wall Street Journal, which shares the US Geological Survey (USGS) data, said: “Based on USGS data, the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that occurred in Turkey may be one of the deadliest earthquakes in the last 10 years. A few hours after this earthquake, there was another earthquake of magnitude 7.5.

The quakes were claimed to be one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent years.

ESTIMATED DEATH TOLL INCREASES TO 10 THOUSAND

The American newspaper, which shared the USGS data, said: “USGS estimates that the loss of life from the earthquake may reach 10 thousand and economic losses of one billion dollars will occur. “Seismologists blame poorly constructed buildings for turning earthquake into disaster.”

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Roger Bilham, a scientist at the University of Colorado Research Institute for Environmental Sciences, also made remarks. Pointing out that building codes changed after the 1999 earthquake, Bilham said: “Magnitude 7.8 earthquake is the highest level that many buildings can withstand. “The worst time for it to happen is that the earthquake happened in the early hours of the morning,” he said.

THE DEADLY THING HAPPENED IN 2015

While the quake was claimed to have shaken a densely populated area, the deadliest earthquakes in recent years were also listed.

Recalling that more than 2,000 people died and more than 60,000 buildings were destroyed in the magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Haiti in 2021, the Wall Street Journal said: “In 2018, more than 2,000 people died in the magnitude 7 earthquake. .5 in Indonesia. More than 9,000 people died in the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015.
