Finland’s technology and chemical industry has reached an agreement with its workers, which ends the strike announced for next week. Reuters reports. The workers’ organizations have today reached an agreement with the employers.
Last week, some 7,000 industrial sector workers – including steelmaker Outokumpu – were laid off for three days. The intention was that more than 10,000 employees would eventually stop working.
However, further strikes are averted by the deal, which is mainly focused on raising wages in Finland. The fact that the agreement has been reached is good news for other sectors as well, which often look to the technology sector as a point of reference.
Seven percent
The wage increase approved by the Finnish Industrial Union includes a two-year deal in which wages will be increased by seven percent, with a one-time bonus of €400 for this year.
An estimated 90,000 industrial workers will benefit from the wage increase. Furthermore, a similar increase was introduced for just under 13,000 employees in the chemical industry.
