Passenger plane engine exploded: Panic on takeoff
There were scary moments on a passenger plane preparing to take off from the tourist region of Phuket in Thailand with 309 passengers and 12 crew members.
The engine of the Boeing 767-306ER passenger plane suddenly caught fire during takeoff. Passengers and crew were evacuated from the plane as the explosion caused a huge panic.
While passengers shared photos and videos of the flames on social media platforms, the health status of the passengers and crew was noted to be good.
While some passengers claimed a loud explosion sound was heard, they said they saw the engine on the right side of the Russian-based Azur Air plane through the window.
Local media claimed that passenger planes in Russia did not receive proper maintenance due to sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries, and that the plane was preparing to go to Moscow.
The airline said: “Our technicians are continuing their investigations. Passengers will remain in the hotel during this period and food and drink will be served.
