For the first time in history… Turks escaped price hikes and demanded “haven from inflation”
Turks in Switzerland broke a record in terms of “illegally entering the country and applying for asylum”. Switzerland stated that asylum seekers from the Turks were increasing rapidly, explaining that the reason for this was “to escape price increases, financial difficulties, inflation” as well as political reasons. Although asylum due to inflation took place for the first time in history, “acceptance of the right of asylum” is also cited as the first time.
Turks ranked 14th among the countries in the world for asylum in Switzerland in 2015, while in 2022 they ranked second.
INCREASES THE NUMBER OF TURKISH LEAKS
Afghans are in first place for asylum in Switzerland. The number of Turks who arrived in Switzerland illegally or with a visa and applied for asylum reached 3,000. It was claimed that most of them were educated people. While the number of refugees from countries like Syria, Eritrea and Algeria is decreasing, the number of Turks is increasing every year.
It is stated that the reasons for asylum of the Turks who come to Switzerland, one of the richest countries in the world, are grouped under three headings. The Undersecretariat of the Swiss Immigration Department said: “Those who come from Turkey and seek protection or asylum in Switzerland; They said they were prosecuted for being dissidents along with human rights violations and legal proceedings against them.”
INFLATION IS CONSIDERED A REASON FOR ASYLUM
It was emphasized that reasons for asylum ranked second, price increases and financial difficulties in Turkey, and pandemic conditions ranked third.
In European law, there is actually no right to “economic asylum”. This right is granted to those who prove reasons such as political persecution and being sanctioned in their country for their political opinions. However, in recent years it seems that a route to economic asylum has been opened for the Turks.
THERE IS AN “EXPERT ON ASYLUM IN TURKEY”
There is also a “Turkey Asylum Expert” in Switzerland on the subject. Expert Adrian Schuster classified asylum seekers from Turkey in a similar way.
Stating that even the simplest criticism can be considered a crime after the presidential system in Turkey, many people were denounced and investigated, Schuster drew attention to serious human rights problems.
While 1,287 people came and applied for asylum in Turkey in 2019, this figure increased to 1,201 in 2020. While 2,330 applications were received in 2021, in 2022 the number exceeded 3,000.
According to the asylum applications concluded in 2022, the 1964 Turks received the right of asylum. 140 received provisional admission. It was announced that 87.4 percent of the Turks who arrived in Switzerland received the right to protection, that is, the status of asylum or temporary residence.
