Mahmoud Abbas urges CIA to “put pressure on Israel”
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Abbas met with William Burns, director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), in the city of Ramallah.
During the meeting, Abbas gave information about the “dangerous developments” with Israel’s attacks against the Palestinians and stated that Israel should be pressured to end its unilateral actions and comply with the signed agreements.
Abbas stressed the need to resume the political process in accordance with international resolutions to ensure peace and stability for all in the region and establish the independent state of the Palestinian people.
The meeting between Burns and Abbas took place ahead of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s scheduled visit to Israel and Palestine on January 30-31.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Israeli army raided the Jenin refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank on January 26. During the raid, 9 Palestinians were killed and many Palestinians were injured. With the death of one of those injured today, the number of those killed in the raid rose to 10.
Tensions rose in East Jerusalem after the fetal attack, and 7 people were killed and 3 wounded in an armed attack on an illegal Jewish settlement on January 27. Yesterday, two Israelis were injured, one seriously, in an armed attack in the Silvan neighborhood of East Jerusalem, near the Old City. (AA)
