He observed 29 thousand people for 10 years! These are the benefits of a healthy lifestyle
According to CGTN news, researchers from the China National Center for Mental and Neurological Diseases and other institutes of health sciences followed 29,000 people, 49 percent of whom were women, aged at least 60 with normal cognitive abilities for 10 years.
The participants were selected from 12 provinces representing China’s geographical features, degree of urbanization, economic status, diet, cultural and social differences.
HAVE BEEN TESTED
At the start of the study in 2009, the participants were tested for various memory functions and Alzheimer’s disease. The tests showed that about 20 percent of the participants carried the Alzheimer’s risk gene.
6 HEADLINES ADDRESSED
Participants evaluated in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2019 were analyzed within the framework of 6 healthy lifestyle factors, including a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, active social relationships, active cognitive activity, not smoking, and never drinking alcohol.
7 thousand 164 DECEASED PARTICIPANTS
During the 10-year follow-up, 7,164 participants died and 3,567 withdrew from the study for various reasons.
In the study, participants with adequate and average lifestyles experienced slower memory loss than participants with negative lifestyles, even if they carried the Alzheimer’s risk gene.
HEALTHY EATING DELAYS MEMORY LOSS
It was claimed that the factor that had the most positive effect on memory was a healthy diet.
It also appeared that active cognitive activity, regular physical exercise, active social interaction, not smoking, and not consuming alcohol, in turn, had a positive effect on memory.
The research was published in the British Medical Journal. (AA)
