EU calls for de-escalation in East Jerusalem and Israel
The EU High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that 9 Palestinians and 7 people lost their lives in the attack on the East Jerusalem synagogue, in the raid carried out by the Israeli army in the refugee camp from Jenin in the north of the occupied West Bank in the morning. He made an explanation.
Stating that with the incident in Jenin, the number of Palestinians killed in the West Bank since the beginning of the year rose to 30, Borrell said: “The EU understands Israel’s legitimate security concerns with the recent terror attacks, but the use of Force leading to death should only be used as a last resort.”
Borrell noted that the EU is concerned about the increase in tension in the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel, and calls on all parties to do everything necessary to de-escalate the tension.
In his statement on the synagogue attack in East Jerusalem, the EU High Representative stated that they strongly condemn such “irrational acts of violence and hatred”. Stating that such events underlined the importance of resuming peace talks, Borrell said: “We call on all parties not to react to provocations.” (AA)
