Reuters: US official to go to Turkey over sanctions warning

The United States is increasingly putting pressure on Turkey to impose sanctions on Russia.

The Wall Street Journal newspaper, one of the main US media organs, wrote that the US warned of sanctions against Turkey in case it provides services such as refueling and spare parts to US-made planes. from Russia and Belarus. In the news, it was claimed that US Under Secretary of Commerce Thea Rozman Kendler, during her visit to Turkey last month, warned that Turkish individuals or institutions violating this sanction will face practices such as fines and imprisonment or loss of export privileges.

British news agency Reuters also reported today that US Treasury Department Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson, during his visit to Turkey and the Middle East next week, will warn countries and companies that they may lose access to the US market without contributing to breaking Russian sanctions.

“THEY MAY LOSE ACCESS TO US MARKETS”

It was noted that Nelson, the ministry’s top official on financial sanctions, will visit Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey on January 29 and February 3.

Speaking to Reuters, a US Treasury Department spokesman said Nelson would convey to Turkish officials that Washington is extremely determined to impose sanctions. “Those who cooperate with sanctioned individuals and entities may risk losing access to US markets,” the spokesperson said.

Reuters also stated that the United States will also warn about sanctions on Iran.

The US Department of Trade and Treasury had previously warned Turkey about sanctions against Russia. On the agenda were the criticisms of Western countries against Ankara, which were disturbed by the rapprochement between Turkey and Russia.
