Third Intifada Warning From Israeli Military Analyst
Ron Ben-Yishai, one of the military analysts for the Israel-published Yediot Ahronot newspaper, wrote in his column that the attack on the synagogue in East Jerusalem was revenge for the operation that resulted in the death of 9 Palestinians in Jenin the day before. .
“A major operation in Palestinian cities or East Jerusalem neighborhoods is not expected to produce significant results,” Ben-Yishai said. “This can only fuel the flames that will pave the way for an Intifada.” The Israeli analyst stressed that the main duty of the Israeli security forces is to prevent the escalation of events, drawing attention to the acts of revenge carried out by far-right Jews in Jerusalem.
Noting that major military operations in Palestinian cities should be avoided for now, Ben-Yishai warned that what happened in Jenin and Jerusalem in the past two days could turn into a full-blown intifada, involving extremist Palestinians and Jews.
Ben-Yishai used the following statements in his article:
“Today the new cabinet will meet, without experienced people. This cabinet is made up of ministers with ultranationalist views who can push radical operations that will fan the flames instead of pacifying the region.”
