Support in conflictive fallow to the farmer who resents the soil
The government, which was looking for a solution to the lack of food production, made another contradictory decision instead of making agriculture attractive by reducing production costs.
In accordance with the new decision published by the Presidency, support will be given to those who engage in agricultural production on land that remains vacant, idle or fallow.
However, the Ministry of Agriculture continues to support farmers who leave their fields fallow. If conflicting decisions are not corrected, support will be given to the farmer who left his field fallow and to the farmer who opened his fallow field to production.
While criticizing the contradictory decision, TMMOB Chamber of Agronomists (ZMO) President Baki Remzi Suiçmez warned that pastures and areas cleared of forest by villagers could be looted.
GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR NON-AGRICULTURAL AREAS
According to the decision published by the Presidency in the Official Gazette, the State will support those who produce in fields that remain vacant, vacant and unsuitable for cultivated agriculture in order to activate the use of agricultural land.
75 percent of the investment expenditure to be made to open up these areas to production will be supported by grants.
ZMO President Baki Suiçmez, who briefed SÖZCÜ on the deal, said that due to Turkey’s arid nature, fields are in compulsory fallow and state-supported cultivation of fallow land cannot contribute to the agricultural production in practice.
‘TOTALLY SUPPORT DECISIONS FOR RECRUITMENT’
Affirming that fallow is essential for the soil to store water and return to yield in our country, where rainfall is low and temperatures are high, Suiçmez recalled that the state still supports farmers for fallow land.
Suiçmez said: “It is the right approach to support the farmer who leaves his field fallow. But now, on the contrary, it has been decided to support those who plant their fields fallow. We have a hard time understanding the diametrically opposed support decision. Not to mention fallow, the farmer leaves 4.2 million hectares of land empty due to high production costs. Support provided without cutting the cost of expensive diesel, fertilizers, pesticides and seeds, unfortunately, does not work. There is a need for total agricultural production policies,” he said.
‘MAY CAUSE LOOT RISK’
President Baki Suiçmez warned that the new decision to support the opening of areas that are not suitable for cultivated agriculture to agricultural production may lead to a serious risk of looting of the edges of forests, pastures and treasury lands.
Suiçmez affirmed that the decision to support the opening of these areas for production is not clear enough and said that the arrangements for the leasing of the treasury lands for 49 years should be made publicly, especially in the areas close to pastures and forests. .
