Contacts between Armenia and the EU are increasing
According to reports from the official Armenian news agency Armenpress, the Armenia-EU Political and Security Dialogue Meeting was held in the capital Yerevan under the co-chairmanship of Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahe Gevorgyan and Secretary Deputy General and Political Director of the EU Foreign Relations Service, Enrique. Gevorgyan stated that they want to cooperate strongly in the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) which will be established for the purpose of monitoring the borders.
The Deputy Secretary General and Political Director of the EU Foreign Relations Service, Mora, stated that they are making maximum efforts to contribute to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and that in the first meeting to be held each year, relations between Armenia and Turkey were also reviewed.
EUMA, which was operational in November and December last year, will carry out routine patrols and observation activities on the border and front with Azerbaijan for 2 years, according to the EU decision of January 23, at the request of Armenia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that the EU decision could bring geopolitical tension and exacerbate conflicts and drew attention to the fact that Russian soldiers serving as peacekeepers in the region would react to the behavior of observers the EU depending on the situation.
